To help you discover other users and events nearby, Elephant may collect location data in the following ways:

a. Device Location (With Permission)
If you grant permission, we may collect your device’s precise or approximate location using GPS, Wi-Fi, or other location technologies.

This is optional, and we will ask for your consent before accessing location.
You may revoke this consent at any time (e.g., via device settings or in-app settings).

b. User-Provided Location
If you choose not to enable device location, you may manually set a location on your profile.
This manually provided location is used solely for location-based features (e.g., finding nearby users).
You can update or remove it at any time via your account settings.

We will not collect any location data unless you provide explicit consent or explicitly enter location data.

1.2 Camera & Photos (Optional Feature)

Elephant includes an optional feature that allows you to take or upload a profile photo.

If you grant permission, the app may access your device’s camera solely for the purpose of capturing a profile image.
You may also choose to upload an existing photo from your device.

  • We do not access your camera without your explicit permission.

  • Profile photos are used only to display your identity within the app.

  • We do not analyze, sell, or share your photos with third parties.

  • You may delete or change your profile photo at any time via your account settings.

  • You can revoke camera permissions at any time in your device settings.

Elephant does not access or collect any images unless you choose to take or upload a photo.

2. Use of Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your Elephant account

  • Authenticate login

  • Provide, operate, and customize the Elephant service

  • Communicate with you about your account or important updates

  • Maintain security and safety of the service

  • Provide location-based features (e.g., showing nearby users) using either your device location or the user-provided location

  • Display your profile photo (if you choose to upload or take one)

We do not sell or trade your personal information.

3. Google Maps / Google Maps Platform Integration & Geolocation Data Use

Because Elephant uses Google Maps Platform (e.g. Geolocation API, Maps API), we follow Google’s terms. In particular:

  • We notify you in advance about the type of data we intend to collect (i.e., your location). This notice appears before we request your permission.

  • We will only collect or cache your location if you give express, prior, and revocable consent.

  • If you consent, we may temporarily cache latitude/longitude coordinates, but only for as long as needed (and no longer than allowed under Google’s caching rules) — typically this should be short-lived (e.g. for display or feature use).

  • We will clearly disclose that we use Google Maps Platform services, and our privacy policy references Google’s Privacy Policy and the relevant Maps API Terms of Service / Additional Terms.

  • We do not combine your location data from Google with other providers’ data in a way that violates Google’s requirements, unless we explicitly disclose this to you.

Attribution Requirements

Wherever we display Google Maps content (e.g., maps, places, geolocation results), we will properly attribute the content according to Google’s branding requirements:

  • Use the official Google Maps logo or “Google Maps” text attribution when required.

  • Do not remove, obscure, or modify Google’s attributions.

4. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information (including location data) from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no online service can guarantee complete security.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not share your personal information with third parties except when:

  • Required by law

  • Necessary to protect the integrity and security of the service

  • You provide explicit consent

We do not sell user data.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information (including location data) as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove or anonymize your data within a reasonable period unless required to retain certain data for legal or security reasons.

For location data obtained via Google Maps Platform API, we limit storage and caching according to Google’s policies — only storing for as long as necessary for the service and removing it thereafter.
